HELLE KJÆRULF
STAND #10
The focal point of Helle Kjærulf's abstract images is all nature, the Nordic nature. This is where she finds peace herself, and where order comes into chaos.
Although Helle does not paint naturalistically, landscapes often arise, but more mental landscapes. The ones she calls mindscapes. Helle Kjærulf has just moved to Ebeltoft from Aarhus and has forest, beach, sky and sea very close.
Helle herself compares her paintings to a poem or music, a path towards an expression that eventually falls into place and makes sense, initially for herself.
In the painting process, she makes extensive use of the acrylic paint's aqueous possibilities and mixing possibilities. The structure is layer upon layer in a harmonious composition and often with great transparency. She works with the very intuitive and at times random principle. The process from the white canvas to the final painting is each time a journey of discovery in a new world.
Helle Kjærulf does not want to express anything static in her paintings. Rather, a state, a harmony, an emotion, a balance, or a thought that arises in the process. She works with time and space and expresses more emotion than reality.
